“The Presidency of the Council of Ministers has accepted the request, presented by the Minister of Health Orazio Schillaci, for the suspension from office of the president of Agenas Enrico Coscioni”. This was stated in a joint note by the parliamentarians of Fratelli d’Italia, senator Antonio Iannone and deputy Imma Vietri, who, in recent weeks, had presented “a parliamentary question to the Minister of Health, to ask if there were conditions for suspending/removing from the role held at Agenas by doctor Coscioni, head physician of the San Giovanni di Dio e Ruggi d’Aragona hospital in Salerno and director of the Cardiac Surgery Department of the University Hospital, to which it was applied, on disposition of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Salerno, the precautionary measure prohibiting the practice of the medical profession for one year, following the death of a patient”.
“The Ministry of Health has sent the request for suspension of the office to the Permanent State-Regions Conference which will express its opinion on May 2nd, as the facts accused of Doctor Coscioni in the exercise of the medical profession are considered to be of such gravity as to have undoubted also reflected in the role carried out by him as president of Agenas”. The favorable opinion – a note explains – also came from the State Attorney General’s Office, for which “the institutional tasks of the Agency, the organic and functional position of its president and the specific acts contested against doctor Coscioni could highlight an inopportuneness of the continuation of the assignment”.
“The suspension is a necessary act since – conclude Iannone and Vietri – there can be no shadows or suspicions about anyone who holds a prestigious position at the top of a major public body which is also a scientific body of the National Health Service”.
