It’s still hard to get a next-gen console these days, especially if you want to buy a Playstation 5 or Xbox Series X. Demand for the product is much higher than supply, in part because of the pandemic. But that’s not the only reason.
In an interview with The New York Times, Xbox executive Phil Spencer explained that this generation of Xbox is actually selling faster than ever:
“When you think about trying to get an Xbox or a new Playstation in the market right now, it’s really hard to find stock. It’s not because the supply is lower than ever. The supply is actually as big as ever. For all of us Humanly speaking, it’s demand outstrips supply. In that regard, we’ve sold more of this generation of Xbox, the Xbox Series X and S, than any of our previous versions of the Xbox. So it’s our job to get supply out of the way. meet this need.”
Basically, while the pandemic is still going on, none of the Xbox, Xbox 360, or Xbox One have sold as well in the same period since their respective releases. Let’s hope that Microsoft and Sony will ramp up production of new consoles soon, but unfortunately, it looks like there’s going to be a shortage this year too.
