NEW YORK – The talks between the US and Russia have ended “in a dead end”, and “the war drums are playing loud”. The tone of the rhetoric between Washington and Moscow rises after the meetings in Geneva, Brussels and Vienna, evoking the ghosts of a conflict in the heart of Europe.
At the end of yesterday’s OSCE summit, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said there is no reason to continue the dialogue, because the Americans have rejected his government’s basic demands, namely to deny Ukraine the joining NATO, blocking the Eastward expansion of the Alliance, and returning to the security architecture in place before 1997.
