While Italy struggles, between mayors banning the installation of antennas and red tape, the rest of the world accelerates on 5G.

At the top of the ranking of cities where the new generation cellular network offers the best performance is Jeonju, capital of the South Korean province of Northern Jeolla, with over 415 Mbps (Megabits per second), a speed much higher than the average of the Italian fixed network. In reality, the promises of 5G go even further: 2 Gbps have been reached in laboratory tests. Thanks to technology millimeter wave, which allows you to make the most of the 5G transmission protocol. Several countries already adopt it, especially in the Far East, and it shows: Hsinchu City, in northern Taiwan, reaches 360 Mbps. In China, data is confidential, but the penetration of the latest generation networks is wide, and there are already over 260 million users.

5G will make the difference in different sectors and application scenarios: in the automotive sector with future self-driving vehicles, in the field of safety with devices that can monitor infrastructures and intervene remotely, in tourism or in Industry 4.0 through reality virtual or augmented. When we talk about 5G we must not limit ourselves to thinking about people but also about all the objects that are part of the Internet of Things and the sectors in which this is applied.

In the ranking in third place is Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia (317.3), then Dubai in fourth; we return to the East with Tokyo, but we go to the other side of the world with Melbourne (257.6 Mbps). First European city is Zurich, with 245 Mbps, followed by Dublin, eighth with 194 Mbps, and Barcelona, ninth with 188.8 Mbps. Curious, because the Catalan city is the world capital of mobile technology and has been hosting the Mobile World Congress for years. Tenth Calgary, Canada with 184 Mbps.
