Biella bets on human capital and innovation and pushes textiles

The Academy dedicated to textiles and green jobs, as well as sustainable chemistry, opens its doors between September and October. It is one of the two supply chain academies wanted by the Piedmont Region to support companies in the transition and is one of the signals coming from the Biellese production fabric, which boasts one of the oldest industrial specializations in Italy and which today records, in a context of strong transformation, a trend of strong recovery of production and turnover.

“Biella, with + 8% production in the first quarter of 2022, marks the best result in Piedmont, with a growth of + 9.9% in terms of turnover for the first three months of the year” recalled the president of the industrialists Giovanni Vietti during the last meeting.

It is precisely the textile-clothing sector that shows the most encouraging signs, which must however be read with a double key: a 2020 of severe suffering for the Fashion system and a recovery in the sector that arrived late compared to other industrial sectors. In any case, the growth trend of the 4th quarter of 2021 strengthens, which recorded + 15.3% for industrial production and + 22.3% for turnover.

Ā«As regards exports, moreover, in the first three months of 2022 Biella records the best data compared to the other Piedmontese provinces, marking a growth of 38.3% compared to the same period of the previous year. However, it should be noted that it still recorded a strong decline in the first quarter of 2021 (-19.6%), recalls the president.

The recovery is underway, there is no doubt, despite the fact that the dynamics of energy and raw material prices, together with the uncertainties of the international scenario, put the profit margins of companies at risk. It is in a complex moment like the one in progress that the focus of companies, underlines the president Vietti, must be on innovation and human capital.
