Everyone in the square
The mobilization of the now former employees of the Sardinian Qatari airline put into liquidation in February 2020, does not stop. In the square the workers distributed between the two hubs of Olbia and Malpensa.
The appeal to Rome
On the street there is the end of the dream. That of the 60s which saw the birth of the Alisarda which later became Meridiana, Meridiana Fly and then Air Italy. Anger remains among the workers. . The goal is to guarantee layoffs for another 12 months and therefore save certifications and “We hope to be included with an amendment in the decree that the Government is drafting in support of the tourism and transport sector, starting with the air” qualifications for a another year and, at the same time, activate procedures to find alternative solutions.
A shared document
To solicit the intervention of the Government and the ministries concerned, a document signed by the representatives of the Sardinia and Lombardy regions and all the initials of the trade union organizations. About thirty lines contain the requests to which the future of 1,322 people is linked. Trade unions and regions ask for “the immediate reconvocation of the table, still open, on the Air Italy dispute” and the inclusion of the dispute within the Law Decree “in the processing and preparation phase (in the field of support for corporate crises in the tourism and transport, which are those most affected by the pandemic still in progress) due to a freeze on layoffs “not yet finalized with the INPS and the extension of the Cig”. Among the requests then “the equalization of Air Italy workers to those of Alitalia with reference to the opportunities reserved for the latter in carrying out the procedures for hiring personnel by Ita SpA”.
Unheard requests
To launch an appeal to the Government, the president of the Labor Commission at the Chamber, Romina Mura, who spares no criticism: “Since last May I have insisted that the Government consider Air Italy and Alitalia as unitary crises in the sector and that they both be included in the negotiations for the constitution of the newco Eng: that opportunity has passed, we all work together on the present possibilities. If those who have institutional and government roles finally want to fight this battle and make their weight felt to save the workers, in Parliament they will find me on the same side ».
