Black Monday for Piazza Affari: over -5% Bper and Banco BPM, only three stocks are saved on the Ftse Mib

Equity markets swooped at the beginning of the week with investors watching with concern the developments of the Evergrande case with the possible contagion on other Chinese real estate giants and repercussions even outside the Chinese borders. The spotlight is also on the central banks with several meetings on the agenda this week, starting with the Fed waiting at the gate for new indications on the reduction of stimulus programs.

At the end of the day, the Ftse Mib lost 2.57% to 25,048 points, slipping to the lows of almost two months. Banks in great difficulty with -4.71% for Unicredit and over -5% for Bper and Banco Bpm; Banco BPM’s CEO, Giuseppe Castagna, remarked in an interview with Corriere that he had never talked to Unicredit about a possible merger since the new CEO Orcel is in Piazza Gae Aulenti. Castagna also said that at the moment there seems to be no prerequisites for M&A operations and the new plan will arrive by November.
