Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the , , and the sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, Canada, it was down 1.10%.

The best performers of the session were Baytex Energy Corp (TSX: ), which rose 2.86% or 0.25 points to trade at 9.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Constellation Software Inc (TSX: ) was up 2.18% or 41.21 points to end at 1,929.53 and Nutrien Ltd (TSX: ) was up 2.18% or 2.42 points to end at 113.31 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX: ), which lost 9.21% or 0.83 points to trade at 8.18. Enghouse Systems Ltd (TSX: ) was down 8.44% or 2.29 points to end at 24.85 and Hut 8 Mining Corp (TSX: ) was down 7.01% or 0.19 points to 2.52.

On the Toronto Stock Exchange, 834 stocks fell, outnumbering gainers by 204, while 98 stocks were unchanged.

Baytex Energy Corp (TSX: ) shares rose to highs, gaining 2.86% or 0.25 to 9.00. Shares in Enghouse Systems Ltd (TSX: ) fell to three-year lows; losing 8.44% or 2.29 to 24.85. Shares in Hut 8 Mining Corp (TSX: ) fell to one-year lows, losing 7.01% or 0.19 to 2.52.

The implied volatility of options on Canada’s Toronto S&P/TSX Composite Index rose 2.30% to 18.22.

Gold futures August options contract prices fell 0.31% or 5.80 points to hit $1,850.70. As for the rest of the futures, the July delivery WTI crude oil futures contract fell 0.70% (0.86 points) to trade at $121.25, while the August London Brent crude oil futures contract fell 0.60% (0.74) to trade at $122.84.

CAD/USD fell 1.10% to trade at 0.79, while CAD/EUR was basically flat 0.17% to trade at 0.74.

U.S. dollar index futures were up 0.76% at 103.32.
