The objective is to improve connectivity between residential spaces and mobility through the dialogue between the Samsung SmartThings platform and the Car-to-Home and Home-to-Car services of the two car manufacturers. Thanks to this agreement, Hyundai and Kia customers will be able to remotely control digital devices via voice and touch commands through their cars’ infotainment systems and, vice versa, will be able to remotely control various vehicle functions via AI speakers, TVs and l smartphone app from the Korean brand.
For example, on hot summer evenings, before arriving at their home, users will be able to activate “Home Mode” to turn on the installed air conditioner or air purifier, start the robot vacuum cleaner and turn on the lights. Or, before leaving, you can activate “Away Mode” to turn off unnecessary lights and start the robot vacuum cleaner, so you can return to a clean environment, as well as pre-activating the vehicle’s air conditioning to a comfortable temperature .

Geolocation support

In the case of Hyundai and Kia’s Car-to-Home service, users will be able to save and use specific modes for each situation, in order to minimize the use of the device while driving. For example, in addition to the touchscreen and voice commands, automatic location-based functions will be implemented. Furthermore, electric vehicle owners will be able to use the integrated SmartThings home energy management service to control energy use in the home and in the vehicle and adjust optimal charging times.Hyundai and Kia already offer Car-to-Home and Home-to-Car services in South Korea through collaborations with telecommunications and construction companies.

Thanks to this partnership, the Car-to-Home service, already available for devices such as lights, sockets, gas valves, boilers, air conditioning and ventilation, and the Home-to-Car service, available for air conditioning, ignition and management of vehicle charging, will now be expanded to support connections with a wider range of devices. The Korean manufacturers intend to expand their services to customers outside of Korea, planning to provide them through over-the-air (OTA) updates ) and USB also for existing vehicles.

Samsung also reaches an agreement with Tesla

Almost at the same time, Samsung announced that it had also entered into a partnership with Tesla to manage the American company’s devices via the SmarThings platform. From the second quarter of 2024 it will be possible to use Samsung’s SmartThings Energy to monitor Tesla charging and energy management devices such as Powerwall, Solar Inverter, the Wall Connector vehicle charging system and the brand’s own electric vehicles with the T. Once connected to your Tesla account, the Samsung SmartThings application will allow you to view information relating to electricity production, storage and use. It will also be able to sync with Tesla Powerwall’s Storm Watch weather alert feature, so you can receive alerts for extreme weather events, such as typhoons or snowstorms, directly on your Samsung Smart devices.
