City “Waste free”, the award to Cossato for recycling

by admin

With 83.83% of separate waste collection, Cossato received the confirmation of a «waste free» city also in the 2021 edition of the Ecoforum for the circular economy of Legambiente Piemonte and Valle d’Aosta. For the municipal administration, the award represents yet another confirmation of the goodness of the work carried out in Cossato in recent years, in particular with the choice of maintaining the punctual rate firmly supported in recent months. The fifth edition of Ecoforum was held in recent days and among the Municipalities that received the “waste free” recognition (because with a percentage of separate waste collection above 65% and residual dry waste of less than 75 kg per inhabitant per year) c ‘is, in fact, the second center of the Biellese. The prize acquires particular significance if we consider that the municipalities with populations exceeding 10 thousand inhabitants awarded are only 4 in the whole of Piedmont: Cossato, Bra, Borgomanero and Poirino. This shows once again that it is easier to obtain excellent results, especially in terms of per capita production of residual dry waste given the smaller presence of economic activities producing urban waste in small areas.

“For four editions of the Ecoforum Cossato has received the award – says Carlo Furno Marchese, deputy mayor with responsibility for the Environment -. Only last year, because the parameters had changed, we were not among the winners. If the Tarip works, the credit is also due to the citizens whom we thank for their commitment to separate waste collection. The administration only has the merit of having credit in Tarip years ago and of continuing to believe in it because it is the future, as Legambiente also says ». With regard to the Tarip, the Cossato administrators point out that, at the provincial level, 4 of the first 5 positions are occupied by Municipalities that in 2020 (the year to which the data refer) adopted the punctual rate: in addition to Cossato, as mentioned in the first place with a percentage of separate waste collection equal to 83.83%, Gaglianico in second place (with 81.53%), Vigliano in third (80.91%) and Biella in fifth (76%).
