Cueva Ventana Park in Arecibo Set to Reopen After Three Years

After being closed to the public for three years, the popular Cueva Ventana park in Arecibo is finally set to reopen its doors on Monday, the 20th of this month. The park, which has been a significant tourist attraction on the island since 2012, faced challenges due to the pandemic declaration and a permit issue that took three years to resolve.

Froilán Oliveras, president of Salomé Ecoturismo Corp., the managing company of Cueva Ventana, expressed his gratitude for overcoming the obstacles that led to the closure of the park. Oliveras shared the impact of the closure on the business, employees, and the local community, emphasizing the losses suffered during the challenging period.

Cueva Ventana, which initially started as an effort to protect a natural resource visited only by locals, became a world-renowned destination attracting over 200 visitors daily. The park will resume operations with guided excursions led by trained biologists and environmental interpreters, offering valuable information about the biodiversity, flora, and petroglyphs within the cave.

During the closure, the park underwent repairs and improvements to enhance visitor experience. Despite some vandalism and damage to facilities, efforts were made to restore the park to its former glory. The reopening of Cueva Ventana has been well-received by tourists and ecotourism companies, with plans for new VIP tours and enhanced visitor experiences.

Looking ahead, Oliveras expressed optimism about the park’s future and its importance in showcasing Puerto Rico’s natural beauty. The park will be open seven days a week from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm, welcoming visitors to explore its stunning landscapes and cultural heritage once again.
