Like Despite slight losses, the CDU clear winner of the municipal elections in Schleswig-Holstein. According to the preliminary state result, the party of Prime Minister was Daniel Günther in the vote on Sunday at 33.8 percent. Behind it followed at a great distance SPD in second place with 19.4 percent. The Greens came to 17.7 percent. The FDP ended up at 6.8 percent and the SSW at 4.4 percent. The AfD was 8.1 percent.

Die CDU by Prime Minister Daniel Günther, however, performed significantly worse than in the state elections last year. At that time she got 43.4 percent. Günther was nevertheless satisfied with the result. “The lead over the political competition has even increased a bit,” he told the dpa.

The Greens in the home country of Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck were obviously struggling with the federal political headwind. In the 2022 state elections they had them SPD ousted from second place, which was also their goal this time. “We were able to improve nationwide compared to the last local elections, in Kiel, Ahrensburg and Ammersbek we have now even become the strongest force,” said state chairman Gazi Freitag.

The South Schleswig Voters’ Association (SSW) celebrated a notable success in Flensburg. There, the party of the Danish and Frisian minority was the strongest with 24.8 percent (plus 7.2 percentage points).
