Last year, Russia imported more than a billion dollars in modern chips from the USA and Europe ā€“ despite the sanctions.

This emerges from confidential data from the Russian customs service, which the Bloomberg news agency evaluated.

The imported chips were manufactured by European and US companies. These include Intel, Advanced Micro Devices and Analog Devices Inc.

Despite the sanctions, Russia imported more than $1 billion in new chips from European and U.S. companies in the first nine months of last year. This emerges from confidential data from Russian customs, which the ā€œBloombergā€ news service analyzed.

Spicy: The sanctions were actually intended to prevent this, so that Russian President Vladimir Putinā€™s military does not come into possession of technology that would help him continue his war in Ukraine.

The manufacturing companies such as Intel or Infineon claim to comply with sanction rules

Manufacturers whose semiconductors and integrated circuits were imported included Intel Corp, Advanced Micro Devices and Analog Devices Inc., as well as European brands Infineon Technologies AG, STMicroelectronics NV and NXP Semiconductors NV, according to Bloomberg. So far there is no indication that the companies have violated sanctions. In addition, the data does not reveal who exported the technologies to Russia, from which locations they were shipped and at what point in time the products were manufactured.

When asked by Bloomberg, the companies themselves stated that they would comply with the sanctions regulations. They stopped doing business in Russia when the war broke out and would monitor compliance with sanctions. They would also take action against the illegal distribution of their products and also work with the responsible authorities.
