Italy accelerates on the diversification of gas supply: “On the first 30-50% we will be quick” said the Prime Minister, Mario Draghi at the end of the EU summit who then announces an interview with Putin.
«The discussion is not simple on what to do with the increase in the price of gas. It was important to be able to have a result that was not divisive. In a certain sense, we were satisfied with the conclusion, “explained the premier at a press conference. For May, however, “a proposal from the commission on the possibility of unpacking the price formation of electricity from gas is expected”. For example, Norway is against the price ceiling.
The premier then announced that the United States will guarantee energy support to the Old Continent by sending liquid gas: «The first action is the sending of 15 billion cubic meters of liquefied gas. This is 10% of what is imported from Russia ». And precisely for this reason Snam will purchase 2 new regasifiers.
At the level of the Council, Draghi explained that Macron “has proposed an energy and defense fund that will finance many of the necessary infrastructures” on gas. The premier, on the other hand, has shown no doubts about Russia’s request to pay in gas in rubles: “The payment for gas must be in euros or dollars, but we do not expect any reduction in supplies”.
At the EU Summit “we took stock of measures such as support for families and businesses and the taxation of extraordinary profits” of energy companies, “now we are presenting the Def, then we will see if other interventions arrive”.
On the controversy over the increase in military spending which will rise to two percent of GDP, the premier replied that they are “fundamental for European defense” without which – in fact – the European Union itself is missing.
