Ds4: this is how it is, how it goes and how much the new French compact costs

by admin

The fourth model of the Ds brand, with a more Swiss than French precision, is called Ds4. An acronym already used in the past, but which must not be misleading. In fact, the new Ds4 can be linked to the old one only for the fact that it is a compact size sedan, as indeed the fact that what was a Citroën category brand can suggest has become an autonomous brand with precise ambitions.

Ds4, rests on new foundations

One of the main ones is to become, at a brisk pace, a 100% electrified brand. In this sense, the new DS4 currently represents one of the fundamental elements. In fact, its debut accompanies a new interpretation of the Emp2 architecture, already conceived for electrification. The new variant has nothing to do with the Stla Medium modular platform recently announced by Stellatis for the full-electric models, which however will arrive in 2024. The new Emp2 comes from a structural redefinition that involves 70% of the components to rationalize the arrangement of the electrical network, as well as to raise the bar regarding behavior, comfort and safety. And, of course, optimize the design.

Ds4, sedan with multiple personalities

On this front it asserts itself by making the style evolve, thanks to the possibility of optimizing both the proportions and the profile of the bodywork aerodynamics, made muscular by some decisive sections of the sides and by the prominence of the wheel arches that house large-diameter rims. From these cornerstones comes the silhouette of the DS4, in which the hatchback setting integrates a coupé profile and suggestions that wink at the world of crossovers. To which, however, the Ds4 does not belong in particular considering the height from the ground is not excessive, which remains unchanged in every formal interpretation. In fact, the slender line of the DS4 – 4.40 meters long, 1.85 meters wide and 1.47 meters high, can veer towards elegance with the Ds4 variant and that’s it rather than towards sportiness with the Performance Line and off contexts. -road with the Cross (which can be equipped with the Advanced Traction Control system to optimize traction on low-grip terrain) and, finally, the exclusivity of the La Premiére launch edition through specific color combinations and customization of the superstructures.

DS4, inside is spacious, sophisticated and hi-tech

The cockpit of the DS4 is furnished in a minimalist way. A trendy choice but which, together with the wheelbase that reaches 2.68 meters, proves to be effective in imparting an appreciable breadth to the environment. The internal atmosphere is permeated by hi-tech solutions and refinement, enhanced both by the execution and by the extensive use of precious materials and craftsmanship. The linear dashboard which, however, softly joins with the door panels envelops those sitting in front, integrating a 7 “digital cockpit, configurable but not extensively, and the 10.3” display of the infotainment system. The latter “masks” the air vents, is extensively connected and customizable, interacts via wireless with Apple CarPlay and the most recent releases of Android Auto. Furthermore, it can be managed with voice and gesture commands, as well as through a 5 ”touch display that allows you to activate your favorite functions instinctively but, at times, not with precision. The digitalization of the DS4 can be completed by a 21 ”diagonal head up display, which can provide a lot of information.

Ds4, in Italy with four powertrains

Four engines can be accommodated inside the hood of the DS4, all combined with the eight-speed automatic transmission. The offer is based on the 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo engine with 130 horsepower, which is flanked by another 1.6-liter supercharged petrol unit with 180 horsepower. Then there are a 1.5-liter turbodiesel with 130 horsepower and a powetrain that best embodies the green nature of the Ds. That is, the 225 horsepower plug-in hybrid powertrain, formed by the most powerful turbo petrol engine and an electric with 110 horsepower. The system is powered by a 12.4 kWh lithium-ion battery rechargeable by 7.4 kW systems in less than two hours, which promises a range of 55 kilometers with zero emissions while also allowing the possibility of reaching 135 ‘Now.
