Bonn (dts news agency) – Economists see the increasing staff shortage in many companies as an opportunity for better working conditions for the remaining employees. “Certain business models no longer work if they are based on cheap labor,” said Simon Jäger, until recently head of the Institute for the Future of Work (IZA), to “Spiegel”.
That doesn’t just mean better wages, but also more demanding jobs, says Jäger: “People who still operate machines today will probably no longer do so tomorrow, but they will carry out complementary activities, such as planning the use of the machines.”
