Egypt: the Italian Cesi engaged in the electricity connection project with Italy

by admin

Egypt and Italy plan the development of an electricity generation project, in connection with the North African country’s potential in renewable energy. The project, through which Egypt will export electricity based on renewable sources to Italy, will enter a more advanced stage after the completion of the detailed study and the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two countries.

This project will be developed in collaboration with the companies K&K and Cesi. Ahram Online interviewed Cesi CEO Domenico Villani, who provided details on the project.

“The project – said Villani – aims to connect Egypt and Italy using high voltage direct current (HVDC) technology, an important effort managed by Cesi. As a global consultancy specializing in feasibility studies for international connections, our approach includes a comprehensive analysis of technical, environmental and economic impacts. The project involves the establishment of a 3 gigawatt green corridor for the export of renewable energy from Egypt to Europe, with an HVDC submarine cable approximately 2800 kilometers long”.

According to Villani, the project could facilitate electricity trade between Egypt and various parts of Europe thanks to Italy’s full integration into European energy markets. “Even without a final evaluation in the feasibility study, the project could evolve, directly connecting Egypt to other countries in the Mediterranean basin.” [Da Redazione InfoAfrica]
