Scooters yes, scooters no. These objects, which straddle the border between a toy on wheels and an urban micro-mobility vehicle, have returned to the headlines due to the bill aimed at imposing helmet and insurance plates, as well as direction indicators, and other equipment. Among the models already equipped with arrows with a maximum legal speed of 20 km/h, the Electric Scooter 4 Pro by Xiaomi stands out (850 euros) which at first glance seems to mean: «I have nothing to do with the tiny-wheeled contraptions ». And indeed the 4 Pro features large 10-inch tires (tubeless and self-sealing) that improve stability and comfort. And we noticed it right from the first meters. Power of the brushless motor and maximum gradeability are two of the characteristics that make it a real vehicle, to be used intelligently, however, avoiding busy roads and dangerous situations such as cobblestones and tram rails. It is and remains a scooter, not a scooter. However, it can tackle slopes of up to 20% thanks to the motor, keyed into the front wheel, which delivers up to 700 Watt peak and can be used for small urban journeys and in small towns. Braking with Abs is better than average but more promptness wouldn’t hurt. The 12,400 mAh battery offers a maximum range of 55 km: not that one can go 50 km on a scooter, but it is useful for not stressing yourself with frequent recharging operations, among other things, the connector is magnetic and placed in a convenient position. Compared to previous generations, the frame is much larger and more habitable. 1,198 mm long, 1,240 mm high with a nice wide platform: 16.5 cm. These values, together with a weight of 17.5 kg, don’t make it perfect for transport, but you can’t have everything and the 4 Pro plays on safety and usability.
