New increase in inflation in the Eurozone. According to the preliminary estimate provided by Eurostat, inflation in the euro area stood at 3.4% on an annual basis in September from 3% in August, mainly due to the increase in the prices of the energy component. These are the highest inflation levels since October 2008. Analysts had expected prices to rise to 3.3%. Excluding the most volatile components, namely food and energy, core inflation in the Eurozone stood at 1.9% on an annual basis from the previous 1.6%.
