The government has started the process for the extraordinary administration of Steel mills of Italythe group that manages the former Ilva plants. The representatives of the executive said this to the unions during today’s meeting, Thursday 18 January. The decree for Ilva, signed today, provides for the granting of a five-year loan of 320 million, with an interest rate at market conditions, in the event that it is admitted to extraordinary administration. These funds, it is written in the text, will serve to support business continuity and “preserve production functionality”. The article modifies the procedure for admission to controlled administration with the provision that it can also be requested one or more partners who have at least 30% of the capital.

According to what was reported by the unions, Invitalia wrote to the CEO Lucia Morselli a letter requesting that the company resort to extraordinary administration. Now the CEO has two weeks to respond, after which Invitalia has the right to ask the Ministry of Enterprise to formally start the extraordinary administration procedure.

“Disturbing actions from ArcelorMittal”

Again according to what the government reported to the unions, ArcelorMittal is still trying to buy time even with disruptive actions. On January 16 ArcelorMittal would present request for negotiated settlement to the Milan court for AdI, while negotiations to reach a consensual agreement were still underway.

To the unions the executive also reiterated its belief that it wants authoritative private partners for the relaunch of the company, once the situation with the French-Indian partner has been defined.

The armature stops

This morning at six it started the protest of related companies of Taranto belonging to Aigi (association born from a split in Confindustria Taranto which 80% of companies working with the steel industry adhere to), which have suspended their activities indefinitely with the exception of those relating to plant safety.

Since this morning the related workers have also started a sit-in in front at the entrance to the facility tarantino. The related companies, as requested by the associations, were called for tomorrow in videoconference with the Minister of Business, Adolfo Urso, and the Minister of Labour, Marina Calderone, “for an update on the situation of the former Ilva and in relation to the measures recently taken by the government”.
