Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Government, through the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), has announced new air operations to and from the national territory with United States, Madrid, Canada, and El Salvador. This information was shared by the president of the organization, Dr. José Marte Piantini, during the fourth ordinary session of 2024.
During the session, Dr. Piantini reiterated that air connectivity is a key factor in promoting the productive sectors of the Dominican Republic. He also communicated the request of the foreign air operator Frontier to include multiple new routes.
Frontier plans to begin operations with Airbus A320neo and Airbus A321neo model aircraft, with a frequency of three to seven flights a week. They estimate transporting 497,637 passengers.
Additionally, Air Europa has requested a special permit to operate flights on the Madrid/Santiago/Madrid route from June 27 to September 7, 2024. West Jet Airlines also requested a permit for flights on the Calgary/Punta Cana/Calgary route.
The Canadian operator currently plans to operate passenger and cargo flights from May 4 to October 26, 2024. Marte Piantini highlighted that West Jet Airlines mobilized 227,698 passengers in 1,445 operations during the previous year.
Lastly, the plenary session approved a request for an amendment to the Economic Authorization Certificate (CAE) of the national air operator Sky High Aviation, to include the Santo Domingo/El Salvador/Santo Domingo route. The operator plans to start with two ERJ190 type aircraft with 97 seats and frequencies of three flights per week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, transporting an estimated 8,474 passengers.
