The 12-cylinder adds 30 horsepower

812 Competizione and 812 Competizione A are fitted with the V12 derived from the award-winning 812 Superfast engine. The result is an 830hp naturally aspirated engine that combines great power with a more exciting delivery and the sound that Maranello’s twelve-cylinder purists are well aware of. To increase the power of the 6,500 cc engine of the 812 Superfast and reach an extension of the record rev range, various areas of the engine have been redesigned, the fluid dynamics of the intake and combustion systems have been optimized as well as reducing internal friction.

The new tailpipes are visible

To maintain the high acoustic standard of the engine to which, as is well known, Ferrari V12 owners are accustomed, but at the same time with the aim of introducing the anti-particulate filter into the exhaust that allows to comply with the recent regulations on pollutants, the technicians have created a completely new terminal. In order to guarantee acoustic, performance and aesthetic excellence, the new exhaust terminals are visible, as if to underline their function and the racing nature of the cars without affecting the elegance of each Ferrari model.

The transmission is 7-speed and dual-clutch

Both the 812 Competizione and 812 Competizione A have a 7-speed double-clutch gearbox that takes the performance of this solution to the extreme, ensuring unprecedented shifting feeling for a V12. The recalibration of the control strategies has reduced shift time by 5%, while maintaining the 812 Superfast ratios, the new special versions boast a sportier shifting interval thanks to the additional 500 rpm guaranteed by the new V12. The increase in performance goes hand in hand with the step forward in limiting emissions without affecting the typical sound of the Ferrari V12.

An aerodynamic load as a function of performance

The modifications to the braking system allowed the technicians to redesign the front floor of the two cars and extend it inside the wheel arch. A new lateral vortex generator has been added, studied in the wind tunnel to ensure more synergy with the front diffuser. This has also been optimized: it now generates more load than the 812 Superfast and also improves the cooling of the caliper. All solutions underlying the significant increase in performance: the air vents provide + 30% of the front load, the new vortex generator instead a + 40%.

Carbon alloy wheels 3.7kg lighter

For the first time on a Ferrari V12, carbon fiber wheels are available that reduce weight by 3.7 kg compared to the light alloy wheels of the 812 Superfast, compared to which the two new Ferrari 812 Competizione and 812 Competizione A are lighter of about 38 kilos. The interior is covered with an aerospace-derived paint that reflects the heat produced by the brakes, to ensure consistent performance even on the track. The engine’s contributions to lightening the car come from the titanium connecting rods, the lighter crankshaft and the 12V lithium battery. Great attention was paid to the interiors with carbon finishes, technical fabrics and soundproofing materials.
