Football, sportsmen in panic: a babel of platforms and offers for matches

by admin

After much discussion, it’s time to get in front of the TV to enjoy (or at least hopefully) this offer of football through the small screen (even if the concept is dated because the screens are more than one, and independent from the TV). The first appointment is with the final of the Uefa Super Cup between Chelsea and Villareal, tonight on Amazon Prime Video. And here, unless you are in some bar, pub or hotel subscribed to Sky (which has signed an agreement with Amazon) to see the match you will need to stream Prime Video.

Here is the first taste of the three-year period in which streaming has established itself as the prevailing mode of fruition of the football product. And if it is true that there will be more possibilities of choice, on the other hand it is necessary to take into account another fixed point: a single subscription will no longer be enough.

Serie A all in Dazn with Tim

The most relevant news is undoubtedly the Serie A which went, all of it, to Dazn in partnership with Tim. For Dazn as well as for Timvision, which in his subscription includes among others properties Dazn, the monthly cost is 29.99 euros. Seven games per week will be in total exclusivity. For the other 3 – Saturday at 8.45 pm, Sunday at 12.30 pm and Monday at 8.45 pm – there will be the “co-exclusive” (bizarre neologism, but basically effective) with Sky (5 euros per month from 1 October for the Football package, with cost zeroed until September 30).

On Wednesday, Amazon Prime comes into play

But, as mentioned, the new Serie A dominus is not the only surprise anyway. The exclusivity of the 16 best matches on Wednesday (in addition to the Uefa Super Cup final) for Amazon will in fact require a subscription to Amazon Prime (36 euros per year or 3.99 euros per month) which provides, as stated on the site, “Unlimited deliveries in 1 day on 2 million products and in 2-3 days on many millions more” as well as the video on demand service Amazon Prime Video.

Sky and Mediaset for the Champions League

Sky and Mediaset will broadcast the top European competition. At the beginning of February, the former announced the audiovisual rights for the broadcast of 121 of the 137 games per season (excluding 16 on Amazon Prime video). The matches will be visible on Sky and Now TV.
