The related industry represents – for Milan – close to 261 million Salone del Mobile and Fuorisalone. This is the estimate of the research office of Confcommercio. A figure – up 13.7% compared to last year – 73% due to foreign visitors, who alone will spend around 191 million euros. “These are very positive forecasts – he comments Marco Barbieri, general secretary of Confcommercio Milan, Lodi, Monza and Brianza – which confirm the growing attractiveness of Milan as a design capital. Thanks to a Salone del Mobile at the fair which promises to be of a high standard and to the special atmosphere created with the widespread events of the Fuorisalone: a strong attraction for professional visitors and tourists”.
Around 317 thousand visitors are expected to arrive at the show – scheduled for 15 to 21 April – 3.24% more than last year (64% foreign). Hospitality growth (115.6 million euros +14.2%); catering (81.8 million euros: + 13.7%) and also shopping (63.4 million euros + 12.7%), with an estimated per capita expenditure of 274 euros per day, 10.1% more than 2023.
Among sleeping accommodations, bookings for short-term rental apartments grew by 6.7% (64.5% this year) while hotel bookings decreased by 9% (71%). The data on passenger traffic expected from the Milanese airports of Linate and Malpensa confirm the trend: over 1 million 221 thousand travelers estimated by Sea, the company that manages the two airports, from 13 to 23 April, with an increase of 13% compared to the days of last year’s show, even above pre-covid data.
