The environment and climate change are issues that have never before assumed a great importance in political agendas and in public debate. The network and the online world are one of the places where it is talked about the most and for this reason Google and YouTube have announced that they want to ban all advertisements that promote false statements or fake news on climate change.
The intent is not to monetize advertisers on this type of content. “An increasing number of advertisers and publishers have expressed concern about advertisements promoting inaccurate claims about climate change,” Google said.
Advertisers therefore do not want their advertisements to appear close to this type of news. These limitations will then be employed for anything that calls climate change a hoax or denies the impact of greenhouse gas emissions and human activity on global warming.
To do this, state-of-the-art computer tools based on artificial intelligence and human moderators will be used. YouTube has also recently decided to eliminate all fake vaccine news from its platform.
“In evaluating content against this new policy, we will carefully look at the context in which claims are made, differentiating content that claims a false claim, versus content that reports or discusses that claim. We will also continue to allow announcements and monetization on other climate-related topics, including public debates on climate policy, the various impacts of climate change, new research and more, ”the release reads.
