Google Releases Gemma, the World’s Most Powerful Open Source Large Model
Kuai Technology news on February 22, early this morning, Google announced the launch of Gemma, the world’s most powerful and lightweight open source model series.
The model is divided into two size versions: 2B (2 billion parameters) and 7B (7 billion). The 2B version can even be run directly on a laptop.
Google said Gemma uses the same research and technology as the Gemini model, developed by Google DeepMind and other teams at Google, and is built for responsible AI development.
Google claims that 11 of the Gemma model’s 18 key benchmark tests for language understanding, reasoning, and mathematics surpassed open source models with larger parameters such as Meta Llama-2.
In terms of average score, Gemma-7B’s benchmark average score is as high as 56.4, far exceeding Llama-13B (52.2) and Mistral-7B (54.0), making it the most powerful open source model in the world.
Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said Gemma has demonstrated strong performance and the model will be available globally starting today. It is also cross-device compatible and can run on multiple mainstream device types such as laptops, desktops, the Internet of Things, mobile devices and the cloud, and supports a wide range of AI functions.
