Heineken Italy announces with a note an investment plan from 73 million aimed at the modernization and expansion of the brewery of Assemini (Cagliari). The business plan responds to the need to support the growth of beer production in Sardiniagenerating positive impacts on the local and national production chain in terms of employment and value created in the territory.
Some planned interventions (a new refrigeration plant, CO2 storage systems, cooling towers, etc.) will contribute to improving environmental performance, resulting in a reduction in water and electricity consumption and a reduction in CO2 emissions.
Wietse Mutters, to Heineken Italia: «The investment in the Assemini brewery is an important part of our development strategy. The planned interventions will have an improving impact not only on the production capacity and quality of the brewery, but also on the territory in terms of employment, environment and related industries. The pandemic has eliminated the entire growth of the sector in the last 4 years, with this operation Heineken wants to confirm its commitment to Italy and Sardinia in particular, and to be the engine of the recovery of beer and the agri-food economy “.
The characteristics of the investment plan allowed the creation of a Development agreement in collaboration with the Mise, Invitalia and the Sardinia Region, aimed at supporting large-scale strategic and innovative investment programs. The project provides for a State-Region agreement which will participate with a contribution of approx 14 million euros by the Ministry of Economic Development and by 200 thousand euros from the Sardinia Region.
Heineken has been present in Italy for 47 years with plants in Comun Nuovo (Bergamo, Massafra (Taranto), Assemini (Cagliari), Pollein (Aosta), in addition to the Milan office and the active partnership in Sicily with the Messina Brewery.
