Tesla has to interrupt a large part of its vehicle production at the Grünheide plant in Brandenburg for two weeks. As transport routes shift due to the Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, a gap in the supply chains has arisen, the company said. Longer transport times for components would force Tesla to suspend production in the Gigafactory – with the exception of some areas – from January 29th to February 11th.
“The armed conflicts in the Red Sea and the associated shifts in transport routes between Europe and Asia via the Cape of Good Hope are also impacting production in Grünheide,” the company said in a statement.

It is the first time that such a production stop has occurred in Grünheide. Tesla is also the first company to announce a production gap due to the conflict. According to the statement, vehicle construction will resume at full capacity from February 12th.
In the Red Sea, the Houthi rebels from Yemen are attacking ships with alleged Israeli connections. You have declared your solidarity with the Hamas militia in the Gaza war. Tesla has been manufacturing electric cars in Grünheide since March 2022. Around 11,500 employees work there. They currently produce about 250,000 cars annually. However, by expanding the factory, Tesla wants to increase this number to one million per year. Environmentalists have repeatedly raised concerns about the expansion.
