The device, thanks to the ultraviolet (UV-C) pulsed light produced by xenon flash lamps, is able to autonomously fight the pathogens of the virus. The equipment donated by Intesa Sanpaolo, produced by the US company Xenex and distributed in Italy by AB Medica, a leading Italian company in the production and distribution of medical technologies and partner of the project, is currently the first and only ultraviolet technology in able to effectively deactivate the Coronavirus, particularly effective in reducing the viral load in a few minutes through a disinfection system with ultraviolet pulsed light. The Xenex units are devices that through pulses of UV-C rays, produced by a xenon lamp, interact with the DNA of microorganisms, destroying it. While using the device, no one should be exposed to the UV light emitted by the unit but only the inanimate surfaces. For this reason the system is used in the disinfection process of closed areas such as the operating room, the rooms and bathrooms of the hospital wards with the aim of significantly reducing the microorganisms (viruses, bacteria, spores) present on the affected surfaces. . The contribution is added to the various collaborations in place with the Milan hospital including the one started with Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center, the company dedicated to innovation of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group, for genomic sequencing and geographic mapping on the national territory of SARS- CoV-2 and the reconstruction of the origin and mode of spread of the virus among the Italian population.
