In the fourth quarter of 2023, thework inputmeasured by hours worked, as announced by Istat, increased by 0.8% compared to the previous quarter and by 2.4% compared to the fourth quarter of 2022.
In the same period, GDP recorded growth both in economic terms (+0.2%) and in trend terms (+0.6%). Employment, in the fourth quarter of 2023, also grows in trend terms (+533 thousand, +2.3% in one year), involving permanent employees (+3.3%) and self-employed workers (+1.3 %), but not fixed-term employees who decreased (-1.4%); the decline in the number of unemployed continues (-65 thousand in one year, -3.2%) and that of inactive people aged between 15 and 64 (-496 thousand, -3.9%). This dynamic is reflected in the growth of the employment rate (+1.4 points compared to the fourth quarter of 2022) and in the decrease in unemployment and inactivity rates (-0.4 and -1.2 points, respectively).
