The government of Abidjan has adopted a decree creating the National Council of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (Eiti) in Côte d’Ivoire.
“This decree strengthens in particular the participation of extractive companies, civil society, technical and financial partners as well as researchers in the bodies and meetings of the Council in order to guarantee transparency in the management of national mineral and energy resources”, we read in the press release issued at the end of the Council of Ministers.
The Eiti is an international non-profit organization responsible for overseeing the implementation of a standard launched in 2003, which aims to promote transparent and responsible management of natural resources. Côte d’Ivoire joined in 2008.
