According to a document filed by Amazon on Friday, founder Jeff Bezos has sold around 12 million shares of the online retail and cloud services company for approximately $2 billion. The sale took place on Wednesday and Thursday, as per the documents.

Last week, Amazon announced that Bezos would sell up to 50 million shares of the company. The sales plan, adopted on November 8, 2023, is subject to certain conditions and is expected to be completed by January 31, 2025, according to the company’s latest annual report.

Bezos, who stepped down as the company’s CEO and assumed the role of executive chairman in 2021, founded Amazon as a bookseller in 1994. Currently, he is the second richest person in the world with a net worth of $200 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
