New York’s JFK Airport to Restrict Access for Possible Protests
In response to potential protests on Saturday, New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport has announced it will restrict access to all terminals and JFK AirTrain stations. The airport issued a statement on Friday, stating that “due to the possibility of unauthorized demonstrations causing crowds on January 27 and the obligation to maintain good order for airport users,” access to all JFK AirTrain terminals and stations will be restricted to ticketed passengers, employees with valid identification, and persons with a valid business at the airport.
Travelers flying from JFK are encouraged to arrive early and allow for additional travel time. Additionally, the airport is urging passengers to seek out Port Authority uniformed police officers for additional guidance.
The announcement comes after the Palestinian-led community group, Within Our Lifetime, published a flyer promoting demonstrations for Gaza on Saturday at airports. The group’s call for protests may have prompted the airport’s decision to restrict access.
