Liguria, road transport against the chaos of motorways: “Five days of stop”

by admin

The traffic chaos in Liguria is pushing road hauliers towards exasperation. The last case concerns the closure of a viaduct along the A12 motorway between Lavagna and Sestri Levante, which forces truck drivers to detour up to 180 kilometers (for those who want to avoid the maxicode on the Aurelia) with an additional cost of 300 euros. The interruption not only hinders heavy vehicles, especially those carrying containers to and from the Ligurian ports, but also the lighter ones, which carry out deliveries for large-scale distribution or for e-commerce.

Letter to Draghi

This is how the road transport associations announce the stop of road transport services in Ligurian ports, in logistic platforms and at the state border with France, with modalities to be agreed, on 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 June 2021. They do so with a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, Mario Draghi, the Minister of Infrastructures, Enrico Giovannini, the prefect of Genoa and all the authorities in the area. A joint note from the associations states: “The road haulage companies Cna-Fita, Confartigianato Trasporti, Fai, Fiap, Legacooperative, Trasportiunito have long contested serious operational difficulties on all Ligurian motorway sections (A10, A6, A26, A7, A12 ). At the center, the numerous construction sites started in December 2019 and which still today, often extemporaneously, affect the planning of companies, conditioned by huge queues and forced kilometer lengthenings.

Precarious security

All this in a precarious condition of security resulting in accidents and numerous injuries, including fatalities, and in a more general situation of economic difficulty linked to the pandemic. From the collapse of the Morandi bridge to today, the inconveniences for road transport have multiplied, with losses in turnover not compensated by adequate refreshments, once those allocated by the Genoa decree for the years between 2018 and 2020 have been exhausted “. Meanwhile, while rubble falls from an A10 viaduct, Autostrade per l’Italia announces that, from yesterday and until the reopening of the viaduct between Lavagna and Sestri Levante on the A12 (it could reopen on 16 May), the full exemption of the toll, for all vehicle classes, for travelers.
