Grupo Sura Appoints Ricardo Jaramillo Mejía as New President
During a recent Board of Directors meeting on April 25, Grupo Sura announced the appointment of Ricardo Jaramillo Mejía as the new president of the holding company. Jaramillo will be taking over from Gonzalo Pérez, who has been in charge for the last four years. The change in leadership is set to take place on May 1.
As the financial conglomerate with a presence in 11 Latin American countries prepares for this transition, the Board will also begin the process of searching for a successor to Jaramillo’s previous position of vice president of Business Development and Corporate Finance.
The decision to appoint Jaramillo was made in accordance with the standards of the Antioqueño Business Group, as overseen by the Sustainability and Corporate Governance Committee. Gonzalo Pérez, who announced his retirement to the Board of Directors on August 31, 2023, expressed his gratitude towards Jaramillo and emphasized his confidence in the new president’s abilities.
Jaramillo’s appointment comes at a challenging time for Grupo Sura, with low economic growth in the countries of operation and significant reforms, such as pension and health reforms in Colombia, impacting two of its main companies. The company’s strategic priorities moving forward include evolving the ownership structure, focusing on financial services in the investment portfolio, and creating value for shareholders.
The Board of Directors expects Jaramillo to lead Grupo Sura towards sustainable growth and progression in their strategy of focusing on financial services in Latin America.
