LIstat revises its GDP estimates upwards

ROME (ITALPRESS) – In the first quarter of 2021, the gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 0.1% compared to the previous quarter and decreased by 0.8% compared to the first quarter of 2020. This was announced by Istat . The new estimates show an upward revision with respect to those released on 30 April, when the cyclical change in GDP was -0.4% and the trend change was -1.4%. The first quarter of 2021 had two fewer working days than the previous quarter and one fewer working days compared to the first quarter of 2020. The variation acquired for 2021 is equal to + 2.6%. Compared to the previous quarter, national final consumption recorded a decrease of 1%, while gross fixed investments grew by 3.7%. Imports increased by 2.3% and exports fell by 0.1%. National demand net of inventories subtracted 0.1 percentage points from GDP growth: -0.7 consumption by households and private social institutions (ISP), -0.1 spending by public administrations (PA), + 0.7 investments. The change in inventories contributed positively for 0.8 percentage points, while the contribution of net foreign demand was negative for 0.6 percentage points. Cyclical growth is recorded in the added value of agriculture and industry equal, respectively, to 3.9% and 1.8%, while services recorded a decline of 0.4%.
