The new era of Maserati continues with the debut of the GranCabrio Folgore, the first open-top electric car produced by the Modena-based manufacturer. The third electric model after the Grecale and Granturismo, the GranCabrio expands the Folgore range, continuing the electrification strategy that will lead Maserati to have a completely battery-powered range by the end of the decade. Thanks to its top speed of 290 km/h, the GranCabrio Folgore wins the title of the fastest 100% electric convertible on the market. It will arrive by summer.

Electric Maserati GranCabrio

An open-air version of the GranTurismo Folgore, the electric Maserati GranCabrio allows you to open and close the canvas roof in just 14 seconds and up to a speed of 50 km/h. Designed to guarantee maximum comfort when traveling in the open air, it features features such as the “neck warmer” which allows you to travel with the top open even when the temperature drops and the “wind stopper” which can reduce turbulence inside of the passenger compartment. Aesthetically, the Folgore version can be recognized by a series of details starting from the wording on the sides and the power socket on the rear bumper.

Maserati GranCabrio Folgore, autonomy and power

Built on an 800 volt architecture, the GranCabrio Folgore features three engines, one at the front and two at the rear, for a total installed power of over 1200 horsepower which becomes 760 horsepower that can actually be discharged to the ground. The engines reach higher power density levels (9.2 kW/kg) and are driven by silicon carbide inverters, derived from the car competing in the Formula E championship. The specific configuration composed of two rear electric motors and one front offers a wider adjustment in terms of torque distribution. Each engine can be controlled independently of the others via the Vdcm (Vehicle Domain Control Module). Translated? It can become a fully rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive convertible. It can also put up to 400 horsepower on a single rear wheel. As for the battery, produced in the Mirafiori Battery Hub factory in Turin, it has a nominal capacity of 92.5 kWh and guarantees autonomy between 419 and 447 with WLTP approval. Moving on to charging, it accepts energy up to 270 kW in direct current and 22 kW in alternating current. There are four driving modes, selectable via the lever on the steering wheel: Max range, GT, Sport and Corsa with performance up to 290 km/h and 2.8 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h.
