Mena: Afdb appoints Tunisian Trabelsi as special envoy

Tunisian Jalel Trabelsi, a career diplomat, has been appointed special envoy for the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) and the Gulf regions by the president of the African Development Bank (Afdb), Akinwumi Adesina.

As special envoy for the MENA and Gulf regions, Trabelsi will help build diplomatic and strategic ties, the AfDB said in a statement. He will focus on the Bankā€™s strategic priorities, strengthening partnerships and mobilizing public and private sector resources at scale to deliver transformational projects in Africa.

Of Tunisian nationality, Trabelsi served as Minister Plenipotentiary for African Affairs and Tunisian Ambassador to Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, Sierra Leone and the West African Economic Community (Eecowas).

He also served as dean of the Council of Arab Ambassadors and assumed other functions as advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and head of the national commission for Tunisiaā€™s candidacy for the presidency of the African Development Bank.
