This significant increase in 5G mobile phone users is a testament to China’s commitment to digitalization and technological advancement. The report also highlighted the crucial role of digital infrastructure in supporting the integrated application of digital technology.

As of the end of 2023, China had a total of 11.62 million mobile communication base stations, including 3.377 million 5G base stations. The integration of 5G industry applications into 71 major categories of the national economy and the presence of over 29,000 5G industry virtual private networks further emphasize the rapid growth and adoption of 5G technology in the country.

The report also noted the accelerating integration of the digital economy and the real economy, with emerging businesses such as data centers and cloud computing experiencing rapid development. In 2023, a total business revenue of 356.4 billion yuan was achieved in the telecommunications business, driving telecommunications business revenue to grow by 3.6 percentage points, with cloud computing and big data business revenue increasing by an average of 37.5% over the previous year.

The increase in 5G mobile phone users and the growth of the digital economy indicate a positive outlook for China’s technological and economic development.
