In a successful surveillance operation along the coasts of Cabo Rojo, the Cabo Rojo Maritime Unit of the United Forces of Rapid Action Bureau (NFURA) seized a significant amount of cocaine yesterday. The operation resulted in the confiscation of 288.80 kilos of cocaine, divided into 10 bales, with an estimated value of 3.5 million dollars.
The intervention took place at 8:25 am when authorities spotted a 22-foot-long yawl, white and blue in color, with a 75-horsepower outboard motor heading towards the coast after leaving Puerto Angelino in Cabo Rojo. The vessel was carrying two men who, upon being approached by agents, fled the scene and returned to the coast along El Combate beach, entering a wooded area.
Upon searching the boat, law enforcement found 11 bundles, with ten of them containing blocks of cocaine and one containing food. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has taken over the investigation into this smuggling operation.
The search for the suspects is ongoing, as authorities continue their efforts to locate and apprehend those responsible for attempting to transport illegal drugs along the coast. The United Forces for Rapid Action Bureau (NFURA) remains vigilant in their efforts to combat drug trafficking and maintain the safety and security of the region.
