**Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador addresses mass kidnapping in Culiacán**
The head of the Mexican executive, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, spoke out about the recent kidnapping of 66 people from different Culiacán families, labeling it as a “confrontation between gangs.” The president shared this perspective on Monday morning from the National Palace, also noting that there are still people who remain unaccounted for.
López Obrador assured the public that the identities of those who have not yet been released are known and thankfully, there are no minors among the missing individuals. “Fortunately, most have already been rescued or have returned to their homes safely,” stated López Obrador.
In response to the mass kidnapping, the Mexican government deployed armed forces with 1,800 elements to Culiacán to address the situation and locate the missing individuals. Initially, reports indicated that at least 50 people had been kidnapped, but this number was later adjusted to 66.
Governor Ruben Rocha of Sinaloa reported on Saturday that 42 of the kidnapped individuals had been located, with an additional 16 individuals being found on Sunday, bringing the total number of rescued individuals to 58 out of the 66 originally taken.
The situation in Culiacán remains tense as authorities continue to search for the remaining kidnapped individuals and investigate the circumstances surrounding the mass abduction.
