According to official projections for the citizenship elections in Bremen, the SPD continues to be clearly ahead. As the State Statistical Office announced on Sunday evening, Mayor Andreas Bovenschulte placed the Social Democrats at 29.5 percent. According to the extrapolation, the CDU is 25.6 percent. The Greens and the Left share third place with 11.8 percent each.

The FDP saw the state office around 10 p.m. at 5.2 percent. The Bürger in Wut (BIW) association recorded significant growth. It was located at 9.4 percent – and apparently benefited from the fact that the divided Bremen AfD was not admitted to the election due to competing election lists. In the 2019 election, BIW only got 2.4 percent.

SPD Mayor Bovenschulte has so far ruled in Bremen with the Greens and the Left Party. On the evening of the election, he initially left open whether he would continue this alliance or enter into a possible coalition with the CDU.
