The 45 projects

Presented by the Minister for the South and Territorial Cohesion Mara Carfagna, the Cis Pompei-Vesuvius-Naples finances 45 projects with 287 million euros, of which 14 (from 73 million euros) directly supported by the Ministry of Culture, to revive culture, tourism, social inclusion and urban regeneration in 19 municipalities of an extensive “buffer zone” around the most visited archaeological sites in the world, which today also includes the fourth and sixth municipalities of Naples: “An area that can and must engage the extraordinary cultural drive and tourism of Pompeii – explained the minister – no longer a simple geographical outline of the most famous historical site in the world but a partner in all respects of its development and its attractiveness “. A strong commitment, shared by six ministries (Economics and Finance, Economic Development, Infrastructure, Culture, Ecological Transition, Tourism), from the Campania Region and local administrations: large-scale interventions that implement a good part and the strategic plan for the management of the Unesco site, drawn up by the Great Pompeii Project, which has completed extraordinary actions for the protection of the remains of the largest archaeological park in Europe (an operation mostly financed by the EU), extending it to a wider territory, from 9 to 19 municipalities: urban centers, entire production chains of local excellence, disused production areas, territories to be reclaimed, but also a dense network of infrastructures and areas of very high historical, archaeological, cultural and environmental, which over the centuries have generated a very complex territorial system, often poorly governed. This is how the new CIS projects focus on enhancing the environment, with the creation of bio parks, cycle paths and pedestrian paths, the redevelopment of various historical sites, the construction of new, innovative and eco-sustainable archaeological deposits. Even the construction of sewer networks, as in Torre del Greco, and the reclamation of the Sarno river.
