Ministry of Commerce Announces Third Batch of Chinese Time-Honored Brands

On February 1, Ministry of Commerce spokesperson He Yadong announced at a regular press conference that the Ministry of Commerce, together with relevant departments, recently identified 382 brands as Chinese time-honored brands, bringing the total number of time-honored brands nationwide to 1,455. In the next step, the Ministry of Commerce will take multiple measures to promote the upright and innovative development of time-honored brands and promote the consumption of “trendy” domestic products.

“The Ministry of Commerce will continue to promote the ‘Time-honored Brand Carnival’ activities throughout the year, create more immersive and experiential consumption scenarios, and deliver domestic ‘trendy products’ to thousands of households,” said He Yadong. The Ministry of Commerce will also use big data means to closely track and monitor the operation of time-honored brands and continue to strengthen the daily management of Chinese time-honored brands.

Additionally, the Ministry of Commerce will focus on enhancing the development capabilities of time-honored brands by creating more “must-buy and must-bring” specialty products, in an effort to make time-honored brands more refined and stronger. They also plan to improve the “Time-honored Brand Digital Museum” to tell the story of the inheritance of time-honored brands.

Zhang Lijun, vice president of the China Chamber of Commerce and director of the Time-honored Brands Working Committee, emphasized the importance of supporting more companies to become time-honored brands, as it is significant for cultivating “trendy” domestic products, stimulating the vitality of the domestic demand market, and stabilizing economic growth.

In addition to the announcement of the third batch of Chinese time-honored brands, nine departments including the Ministry of Commerce recently issued a notice to improve the recycling system of renewable resources such as waste home appliances and furniture. The initiative aims to cultivate a nationwide recycling system and increase the national recycling volume of used household appliances and furniture by more than 15% compared with 2023, promoting green and low-carbon recycling development to better meet people’s needs for a better life.

“In recent years, my country’s home appliance market has moved from the ‘incremental era’ to ‘paying equal attention to both incremental and inventory era’,” He Yadong stated. There is a great demand and potential for replacement of home appliances that have been used for a long time, which makes improving the recycling system of renewable resources such as used household appliances and furniture crucial.

As part of the effort to improve the recycling system, the Ministry of Commerce plans to work with relevant departments and localities to strengthen standard construction, revise a series of standards such as waste household appliance recycling specifications, and carry out publicity and promotion to popularize energy conservation and emission reduction knowledge.

The announcement of the third batch of Chinese time-honored brands and the initiative to improve the recycling system of renewable resources demonstrate the Ministry of Commerce’s commitment to promoting the development of traditional Chinese brands and creating a sustainable and green consumption environment.
