Rally Italia Sardegna: double Toyota. Ogier-Ingrassia first in the league

by admin

An incredible race. Many, many twists that followed one another from Friday to Sunday, when Ogier-Ingrassia got on the top step of the podium in Olbia, who managed the race well with their Toyota Yaris Wrc and bring home important points from a championship point of view, where they are leading by eleven points.

Saturday: bad day for Hyundai

On Friday, the longest stage of the rally with its 127.40 timed km, the undisputed ruler was the Tänak-Järveoja crew on Hyundai i20 Wrc who won all eight scheduled special stages. Behind them, another crew given as favorite, the Sordo-Rozada teammates. But Andrea Adamo’s team happiness on Saturday had to deal first with Tänak’s departure on the ps 12 due to a suspension problem and then, a roll-over of the Spanish crew, without consequences, on ps 15.

Ogier’s victory after leading the way

For the reigning world champion crew, Ogier-Ingrassia, it was an uphill race but their great experience was useful in keeping their nerve and concentration at the highest levels. On Friday, the Toyota duo led the way by starting first, a disadvantage when racing on dirt. But despite this, at the end of the day they finished third overall.

On Saturday, the French driver got off to a strong start, overtaking Sordo in the early stages and, after leaving Tänak, Ogier found himself at the top of the standings. A position that he maintained until the end of the twenty scheduled tests, taking home the fourth overall victory in Sardinia.

Evans, co-piloted by Martin, started the final day with a stage win in ps 17 to increase his lead over third place, and was also the fastest in ps 19. In the final stage he was slowed down, but the advantage he had built allowed him to secure second place.
