Recovery, construction and tourism: the bets of Calabrian companies

by admin

Calabrian companies are preparing to restart by focusing on Recovery projects, the return of tourists and the resumption of construction. “The restructuring market is starting up again in the Reggio area and so is the market for materials and services”.

«With the Recovery Fund, Calabria today has opportunities that will never reappear. Starting with investments in infrastructures – said Aldo Ferrara, president of Unindustria Calabria – High Speed, bridge over the Strait, Zes and strengthening of the ports will allow us to create a macro-region of the South that will definitively emancipate the territories. And together with the European funds, the program contracts, the CIS, the prospects will greatly expand ». The occasion to take stock of the situation was the board of directors of the small industry of Unindustria Calabria which met on Friday in Reggio Calabria and which was also attended by Diego Mingarelli, vice president of Confindustria for Europe, development and territorial cohesion, resilience and management of emergencies.

Mingarelli: “New infrastructures for a competitive South”

«The resources available today – said Mingarelli – represent a unique opportunity for the South and Calabria. In particular, the new physical and digital infrastructures will transform the Italian suburbs and therefore the whole of the South into more competitive areas ». Through European funds (the 2021-20127 programming provides resources for 2.5 billion euros), “immediate aid will also be arranged for small and medium-sized enterprises with tax credits, vouchers and other tools that will accelerate the development of the territories “.

Ferrara, “We expect greater entrepreneurial density”

“The time is now. We are reigniting the engines of our economy – underlined Ferrara – according to a new vision of our region. The new railway system, combined with the presence of the airports, the international one of Lamezia Terme and that of the Strait, the ports of Gioia Tauro, Crotone and Corigliano, the special economic zones and the industrial area of Lamezia, the largest in the South after that of Bagnoli, for example, they already allow us to foresee a new, greater entrepreneurial density in the whole region ».

The waiting of the tourists

“The restructuring market is starting up again in the Reggio area and so is the market for materials and services” remarked Daniele Diano, president of the Small Industry of Unindustria Calabria. But the strong expectation is on tourism: “Bathing establishments, hotels and related businesses, all of private entrepreneurs, have started redevelopment works, but protocols on reopening are awaited”. The city has also caught up, completing a 50 thousand square meter waterfront overlooking the Strait, built with the European resources of the Pon 2014/2020 for metropolitan areas. Among other things, the PNRR assigns 53 million to Reggio Calabria for the construction of the Mediterranean Museum, a work designed by Zaha Hadid, the Iraqi starchitect who died in 2016.
