Apple is planning to revamp its Mac computers with the latest M4 processors in an effort to boost declining sales and keep pace with competitors in artificial intelligence. According to reports from Bloomberg, Apple is looking to update its personal computer lineup following the release of the M3 chip series last November.
The goal of this initiative is to increase sales of Mac products, which saw a significant drop of 27% in fiscal 2023 after reaching a peak in 2022. Despite the introduction of the M3 range, holiday season sales remained stagnant at $7.78 billion, compared to $7.73 billion the previous year.
However, there has been some improvement in the first quarter of 2024, with Mac shipments rising by 14.8%. This is a stark contrast to the first quarter of 2023, which marked the lowest point in computer sales history.
Following a 4% jump in Apple’s stock price on Thursday, shares experienced a minor dip of less than 1% on Friday. Year to date, Apple shares have seen a 9% decline, but have risen by 6% over the past 12 months.
Apple has not yet provided official comments on these reports. MarketWatch has reached out to Apple for further information on their plans for the Mac computer overhaul.
