MILAN – New expansion in Poland for the San Donato Group. The Lombard and Italian healthcare giant which is part of the GKSD holding company, and which among others controls not only the San Donato polyclinic but also the San Raffaele and Galeazzi-Sant’Ambrogio hospitals in Milan, has reached an agreement for the acquisition of 100% of the Polish group Scanmed, through its subsidiary American Heart of Poland, specializes in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. «For the next few years, GSD and GKSD have already planned an investment program of over 300 million euros to improve the quality of medical services available in the public healthcare system in Poland» explains Kamel Ghribipresidente di GKSD Investment Holding.

With this operation, Gruppo San Donato consolidates its positioning in Eastern Europe, confirming its propensity for internationalization. At an aggregate level, the turnover will reach approximately 2.5 billion euros, the number of beds will rise overall to 8,260 and there will be over 5.5 million patients. The Scanmed Group, in fact, is a leading operator in Poland with 39 locations and over 300,000 patients treated every year. Scanmed manages, with PPP (Public-Private Partnership) contracts, a network of public cardiology operating units located in eight regions and some hospitals specialized in gastroenterology, ophthalmology and orthopaedics. Hospital operations are complemented by medical centers that offer patients access to advanced diagnostic care and specialized outpatient care. American Heart of Poland, by virtue of contracts with the Polish National Health Fund, it guarantees access to high-quality medical procedures to over 200,000 patients every year.
Its facilities annually carry out 66,100 hospitalizations related to coronary heart procedures, rhythm and conduction disorders and heart failure. «A very high quality medicine, widely accessible and guaranteed by the National Health Fund, represents the future of the public health system in Poland and American Heart of Poland, today even more with Scanmed, feels like an integrated and fundamental partner of this system» is finally the comment of the CEO of American Herat of Poland Adam Szlachta.
