Strike averted at La Scala, thanks to the agreement reached on the contractual renewal. This was announced in a note from the Slc-Cgil, which revokes the protest proclaimed for next April 4, “given the positive conclusion of the dispute over intermittent workers and the full economic and regulatory application of the contractual renewal”, as stated in the note.

Last March 27, the union and the theater reached a general agreement on the remuneration and regulations of intermittent workers, i.e. evening workers and theater staff. This is the last step before the signing of a union agreement which, the union note states, «will put an end to a long history for this type of worker, who for over 20 years has been waiting for an adjustment that would remedy inconsistencies and discrimination wages which have produced long and complex legal disputes”.

The dining room staff

Agreement also reached on the problem of theater staff hired «to complete the workforce in addition to staff with permanent contracts», introducing, as requested by the ushers who went on strike during the preview of the premiere of Don Carlo last December 3, “the possibility for university students in good standing with their academic studies to be able to renew the employment relationship until the end of the study cycle”, explains the note from Slc Cgil, highlighting that “with this agreement the negotiation on the contractual renewal ends of the three-year period 2024/2026 which began a year ago”.

The appointment of the superintendent

The union also expressed its opinion on the issue of the appointment of the superintendent, given that the mandate of the one currently in office, Dominique Meyer, will expire in February 2025. «We consider it of fundamental importance to be able to continue the negotiation process in a climate of serenity, stability and continuity, avoiding that abrupt and sudden changes at the top cause complications in union relations», say the representatives of the workers of La Scala, who in the note They applaud the “recent reorganization of the management structure proposed by the superintendent and approved by the board of directors.”

According to Slc Cgil, «the replacement of the general director and the conferral of those functions to the various managers of the theater can guarantee a perfect transition in the rotation of a new superintendent who, once designated, must be able to have full autonomy in the appointments of artistic managers, without inappropriate external interference”.
