Skoda has enriched the fourth generation of Fabia by presenting the Monte Carlo variant. The iconic name, initially introduced exclusively for Fabia, has been a symbol of sportiness since 2011 and celebrates the brand’s many victories at the legendary rally.
In 1936 Skoda’s first success at the “Monte”
The name Monte Carlo recalls not only the famous rally, but also the sports models of the Czech brand. Since 2011, the Monte Carlo variants are reminiscent of the great sporting successes of the Bohemian house at the “Monte”.
In its roll of honor, we remember in 1936, when Skoda Popular ranked second and was therefore the first model to receive the evocative name. It was followed by the legendary Skoda 130 RS which achieved the famous “double” in its category in 1977 and by Skoda Fabia Rally2 which repeated the feat 40 years later.
Over 120 years of history in motorsport
In 2021 the brand celebrated 120 years of engagement in Motorsport, a story that began with the motorcycle developed by the company’s founders, Václav Laurin and Václav Klement, which was the first milestone of this path, with participation in the Paris- Berlin in 1901. After making its debut at the second Monte Carlo Rally in 1912, the Brand celebrated its first major success in 1936, when Skoda Popular finished second among cars up to 1,500 cc. In light of this success, the brand launched a special edition, producing a limited edition of 70 Monte Carlo Popular copies.
The unique success of Skoda Fabia in rallies
After the first class victories of the first generation of Octavia in the 60s, the legendary Skoda 130 RS gave the Bohemian house, in 1977, the first “double” at the “Monte” in the category of cars with engine capacity up to 1,300 cc. This success was repeated in the 1990s by Favorit and Felicia, before the Fabia’s mind-blowing rally adventure began. In 2003, Fabia Wrc replaced Octavia Wrc, with whom the Czech manufacturer entered the top category of the World Rally Championship for the first time in 1999.
